The Industry's Best Kept Secret: Throughput Optimization
Using a systematic approach to evaluate compressor performance and efficiency, a company can identify and enhance poor and inefficient compressors. In fact, with basic performance data, the economic analysis of capital and operating expenditures can be easily calculated. The savings are achieved in one of two ways: (1) reduced fuel consumption at a fixed throughput or (2) increased, marketable compressor throughput at a fixed engine horsepower. Actual projects have results in fuel savings or enhanced revenues with paybacks as short as 30 days ($20,000 expenditure). This paper describes the compressor performance and economic analysis techniques used in a systematic approach. It also discussed how real fuel savings or increased throughput can result in increased net income.
