Category Title
With the present trends toward higher component power output, increased moving speeds of machinery and maximum utilization of engineering materials, highly detailed vibration studies are required in the design and application of rotating and reciprocating equipment. Any machine or component subjected to periodic or fluctuating forces will experience some form of oscillation. Such motion in general can be classified as vibration. Vibrations are important to the design engineer because they can produce extreme mechanical stress in component parts. Such stress may result in noisy operation or expensive parts failures. The problems of vibration in machines and component structures of engineering interest are usually considered as special problems in dynamics. The problem of torsional vibration in machines is different. This presentation will provide an understanding of torsional vibration in reciprocating gas compressor packages. It will include material from reference sources and case studies.
