Effective Automation of Compression Equipment
This paper is based on a recently completed project which included automation of 34 engine/compressor packages ranging in size from 750 BHP separables to 2,500 BHP integrals. The paper will review steps necessary to insure that fundamental sub-systems (i.e., ignition, lubrication, instrumentation, etc.) are functioning properly prior to consideration of an automation program. The next step in the process will be a discussion of key components (i.e., engine safety systems, SCADA communication, etc.) to bee considered. The closing will address benefits derived from the program such as improved fuel efficiencies, improved run time, remote monitoring and control, manpower reductions.
