Contents Description: What every gas industry employee should know about environmental compliance a must have for employees who deal with environmental issues on a daily basis.
The SGA Layman's Guide to Environmental Issues in the Natural Gas Industry was developed and written by industry environmental professionals and consultants to provide a basic regulatory summary of the environmental regulations that directly affect the natural gas industry.
Vibrations Caused by Cylinder Gas Passage Acoustical Resonances
New reciprocating compressors run at high speeds than before. Cylinder designs have changed to allow for larger gas passages. These changes are beneficial to end users of the equipment. However, new problems have resulted from these changes. Problem vibrations now occur at higher frequencies than happened on slow and medium speed equipment, due to gas passage acoustical resonances that coincide with mechanical natural frequencies of cylinder assemblies and attachments. Two case studies will be presented that show how cylinder passage acoustical half-wave resonances resulted in unacceptably high vibrations. Both these cases experienced failures of attachments to the cylinders or cylinder supports. Suggestions for avoiding these problems are given.
