Evolving Technologies and Their Application to Medium and High-Speed Reciprocating Natural Gas-Fueled Engines
Developing techniques and trends in ignition system design, as they relate to improved operation of medium and high speed reciprocating natural gas-fueled engines, are reviewed. The examination of these items is based on laboratory and field experience in the application of a new gas engine ignition system. Special attention is given to combustion enhancement tools such as multistrike operation, individual cylinder timing control, and variable spark energy selection. Emerging maintenance and troubleshooting capabilities, as well as engine protection and safety features resulting from integrated diagnostics and ignition secondary prognostics, are also explored.
