A Case Study on Trapped Equivalence Ratio Control & Fuel Composition Effects
This paper discusses the effects of fuel composition on emissions in slow-speed two-stroke integral compressor engines and the use of a Trapped Equivalence Ratio (TER) control strategy to mitigate these effects. Given in this paper are results from a prior unpublished PRCI research project regarding effects of fuel composition on emissions in a laboratory GMVH-6 engine. A brief background on TER control is also presented to illustrate potential errors relating to fuel composition. A case study of the application of TER control and real-time fuel composition feedback from an on line gas chromatograph in a TCVA-10 engine is discussed as a method to compensate for varying composition. Finally, recommendations are given for future research and application.
