Optimizing reliability, availability, and efficiency while minimizing cost is a common objective for gas companies today. For the most part, companies are working at the front line to improve performance and cut costs. Unfortunately, many of those good practices and ideas are stuck at the location and not shared throughout the organization. In fact, most of the time they go unnoticed. Good performance measures are critical to identifying and maximizing best practices and ideas. The trick is to develop performance measures that are detailed enough to provide useful information at the local level while being generic enough to compare form facility to facility. This technical paper will discuss several key performance measures related to the operation of gas compression facilities including: engine efficiency and reliability (BSFC, reliability, availability, etc.); compressor efficiency (HP/MMSCFD, combined efficiency, etc.); station efficiency and reliability, and pipeline efficiency. In addition, this paper will discuss techniques used to compare performance measures between facilities and with industry standards and OEM guarantees.
