Operating efficiency can be defined in several ways and it involves not only compressor or primary driver efficiency at design points, but also the match in speed and power between the two components especially when the driver is a gas turbine. A method of analysis was developed and exemplified on compressor installations experiencing variable operating conditions. The results were used in a design application intended to be less sensitive to variations in operating conditions and to ensure predictable statistical distributions for performances early in the design phase. In this way the customer could be fully advised how the performances will evolve during long time operation.
