This paper focuses on the benefits of electronic power cylinder disablement for low torque operation on lean burn engines While the idea of power cylinder disablement is not new, the technologies that are used today to achieve disablement have evolved so that what was once a good idea with application issues is now reliably achieved. With power cylinder disablement, the lean burn engine is able to achieve marked improvements in combustion stability, efficiency and emissions at low torque operation. This paper includes a case study on a TCVC-20M that is regularly operated at torques of 50% or less.
