The Effect of Improved In-Cylinder Mixing on Exhaust Emissions From a Cooper Bessemer GMVH-6
Testing was done on a large-bore, two-cycle gas engine (GMVH-6) to determine the effect of a new, electronic fuel injection valve with a special nozzle designed to accelerate the flow to a Mach number above 2.5. The nozzle was designed specifically for the geometry of the GMVH cylinder, and the results show improved emissions at all running conditions. Both pre-chamber ignition and open-chamber combustion were investigated. The results indicate an improved method of in-cylinder mixing, with direct implications on the quality of air in the vicinity of today's large-bore engine sites.
