An energy audit was planned and conducted at a typical natural gas compressor station to determine if the selected measurement methods provided satisfactory results and if the identified energy losses could lead to energy and cost savings. This energy audit research was sponsored jointly by GMRC and the Compressor Committee of PRCI. The research involved a review of literature and industry practices. A planning phase in preparation for the field audit, and the testing conducted at single typical compressor station. This paper summarizes the findings including an energy budget for the station the areas of good performance, the abnormal energy losses that were identified, and several examples of possible energy savings. The methods used and their successes and shortcomings are discussed
